Richard S. Marshall is a Senior Client Partner based in Korn/Ferry’s New York office. As a member of the External Affairs Practice, Marshall focuses on senior-level corporate communications searches.
Marshall brings more than 20 years of senior corporate communications and public affairs experience to Korn/Ferry. Most recently, he served as Vice President, Corporate Communications of The Home Depot, the world’s largest home improvement retailer and No. 13 on Fortune Magazine’s list of largest companies. In that capacity, Marshall was the senior communications advisor to the company’s first outside Chief Executive Officer and new leadership team, where he realigned and directed internal communications, media relations, executive communications, events management, and community relations.
Prior to joining The Home Depot in 2001, Marshall served as Director, Worldwide Public Relations for Silicon Graphics Inc. (SGI), the high-end computer company best known for its Hollywood production work and military intelligence systems. In that role, he was responsible for global media and analyst relations.
Marshall also served as Director, Corporate Communications for Subaru of America Inc., the Asian automotive nameplate. In his 10-year career at Subaru, Marshall led the company’s communications strategy during its pivotal business turnaround. In the late '90s, the company successfully repositioned itself to become one of the fastest-growing automotive brands and was named “Most Improved Car Company in the World” by The Financial Times.
Earlier in his career, Marshall held a variety of communications and marketing positions in the public and private sectors. In the public sector, Marshall worked for the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, Indiana, serving as ombudsman for one of the state’s largest economic development projects. In the private sector, he served as a regional marketing manager for USA Today and as a business consultant for a privately held enterprise.
Marshall earned a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Indiana University in 1981 and later did graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Arthur W. Page Society and serves on the Board of Advisors for the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife have two daughters.
