David S. Pottruck is currently Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Red Eagle Ventures, Inc., a private equity management company. He also serves as Chairman of Eos Airlines, a startup international carrier, and as Chairman of The Higgins Group, an international hotel and hospitality project management company.
Mr. Pottruck serves on the Board of Directors of Intel Corporation and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation. He is a Senior Fellow in the Wharton School Center for Leadership and Change Management. In addition, he is a Senior Advisor to DiamondCluster, an international consulting firm. He is Chairman of the Wharton West Advisory Council. Mr. Pottruck also serves as an Advisory Board Member of Beautiful Places, Inc., Stadium Imaging, LLC., Voice Genesis, Inc., and the Wharton Leadership Advisory Board.
Mr. Pottruck was formerly President and Chief Executive Officer of The Charles Schwab Corporation, where he worked from 1984 until 2004. During Mr. Pottruck’s tenure as Schwab’s President, the client assets at Schwab grew from $66 billion (1992) to $1.08 trillion (2004), and their market capitalization grew from under $1 billion to $15.9 billion. Mr. Pottruck was formerly a Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania and Chair of the San Francisco Committee on Jobs.
Mr. Pottruck has received significant recognition by various organizations. He has been named one of the “Top 15 CEOs” by Worth; “CEO of the Year” by Information Week, “Executive of the Year” by The San Francisco Business Times; “CEO of the Year” by Morningstar. Mr. Pottruck also received the Anti-Defamation League’s 2000 Torch of Liberty Award.
Mr. Pottruck co-authored the best-selling business book Clicks and Mortar: Passion Driven Growth in an Internet Driven World. He was appointed by Congress to serve as a commissioner on The Advisory Commission on Electronic Commerce.
Mr. Pottruck graduated with a BA from the University of Pennsylvania in 1970, where he was also named the Most Valuable Player on both the varsity football and wrestling teams. He went on to receive his MBA with honors from Wharton in 1972.
A native of New York, Mr. Pottruck and his wife, Emily, reside in San Francisco. He is the father of two adult children.
